Lahore Orders Unsafe School Buildings Shut as Inspections Continue

Lahore: Assistant commissioners across Lahore are carrying out detailed school inspections on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, reviewing student and staff attendance, cleanliness, infrastructure, security, drinking water, washrooms, computer labs and teaching standards.

The district administration has directed that classrooms declared dangerous be vacated and closed immediately, while construction areas must follow safety SOPs and remain properly secured. Officials have also been told to improve drinking water, sanitation, lighting, fans, washrooms, furniture and other basic facilities.

Punjab’s School Education Department separately issued province-wide safety instructions on October 1, 2026, requiring school construction sites to be cordoned off, student access blocked and regular safety monitoring carried out.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz said student safety would be treated with zero tolerance and ordered assistant commissioners to continue surprise school visits and submit daily reports.
