Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has extended the suspension of flight operations at King Khalid International Airport until October 17, 2026, following a series of deadly attacks targeting the airport. The closure has disrupted international and domestic travel, prompting several airlines to cancel or reschedule flights.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the extension on October 12, stating that additional safety inspections and operational checks were necessary before services could resume. According to an official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), the airport closure is scheduled to remain in effect until 21:00 GMT on October 17, equivalent to midnight at the start of October 18 in Saudi Arabia.
The disruption follows missile and drone attacks reported over the weekend, for which Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility. Several international carriers, including Lufthansa, Etihad Airways and other airlines, have suspended or adjusted Riyadh services because of the security situation.
Passengers travelling to or from Riyadh are advised to check directly with their airlines before departing for the airport. Although the current aviation notice specifies an end time for the suspension, the actual reopening will depend on safety assessments and further official instructions.
