Abu Dhabi: QITAF Holding, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Investment and Development (ADID), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan’s Global Academy Limited to explore a major land-based seafood farming project. The proposed facility targets approximately 30,000 metric tonnes of annual production once it reaches full operational capacity.
The project is expected to use advanced Japanese Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), which treat and reuse water within controlled fish-farming facilities. Initial production would focus on commercially important species including hamour, sea bass, cobia, snapper, halibut and shrimp.
The proposed development could also include fish hatcheries, seafood processing facilities, freezing units, cold storage, fish-feed production and distribution infrastructure. Artificial intelligence, automated feeding and smart water-quality monitoring are among the technologies being considered.
The agreement was announced on October 7, 2026, but the project remains in the feasibility and planning stage. Production capacity will be developed gradually, subject to technical assessments, regulatory approvals, land availability and final commercial agreements. No confirmed construction start or operational date has been announced.
