Lahore High Court Declares Parks, Schools and Roads Public Property in Housing Societies

The Lahore High Court has ruled that land reserved for parks, schools, roads, and graveyards in private housing societies belongs to the public and cannot be reclaimed by developers. The court stated that welfare land is a public trust under the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and cannot be sold or used for commercial purposes. The judgment also directed authorities to begin construction of a government school within three months, emphasizing that providing education and public facilities is a legal responsibility, not an administrative choice. The court dismissed the housing society’s petition seeking the return of land allocated for public welfare.
