Japan Develops World’s Fastest Maglev Train L0 Series

TOKYO: Japan is developing the L0 Series maglev train, expected to become the world’s fastest passenger train with top speeds of up to 603.5 km/h. Using magnetic levitation technology, the train will glide above tracks, significantly reducing friction and travel time. Once operational, travel between Tokyo and Nagoya could take around 40 minutes, while Tokyo to Osaka may be completed in nearly one hour. The project, estimated to cost around £52 billion, has faced multiple delays and is now expected to launch between 2034 and 2035. While the project marks a major breakthrough in high-speed rail technology, experts note that replicating such systems in Europe or the UK would face challenges related to infrastructure, energy demands, cost, and passenger preferences.
