Lahore: The federal government’s Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved a Rs7.49 billion project to construct an eight-lane flyover at the Imamia Colony Railway Crossing in Shahdara, Lahore. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve the movement of vehicles along National Highway N-5.
The approval was granted during a CDWP meeting held on October 26, 2026, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. According to the Ministry of Planning, the project’s estimated cost is Rs7.492 billion.
Along with the eight-lane overhead bridge, the project includes the construction and rehabilitation of connecting roads around Shahdara Town. These improvements are intended to provide smoother traffic movement around the railway crossing and improve connectivity between surrounding areas.
The Shahdara flyover was among 10 development projects worth approximately Rs40.915 billion approved by the CDWP during the meeting. Three additional major projects, worth approximately Rs172.25 billion, were recommended to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
Although the flyover has received formal approval from the CDWP, the government has not announced a confirmed construction start date or project completion deadline. The approval does not mean construction has already begun.
