Karachi: The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has suspended its nine-day nationwide strike for 40 days after receiving assurances from the federal and Sindh governments on key demands. Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said the issues discussed include toll-tax reduction, parking arrangements, petroleum pricing and axle-load limits. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan assured transporters that a committee would review toll taxes, while petroleum prices would be revised every 15 days or monthly instead of daily. Transporters were also assured that 10-wheeler trucks would be allowed appropriate weight limits. Awan stressed that the strike has been postponed, not ended, and warned that protests could resume if the commitments are not implemented.
