Lahore: Punjab’s flagship Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme has been selected to receive the 2026 UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award, according to a notification reported by Dawn. Launched in August 2024, the programme provides interest-free loans to eligible low-income families for building or improving homes on their own plots. Government data reported in November 2025 showed that more than 105,000 households had received loans worth around $350 million during the programme’s first year, while nearly 30,000 houses had been completed at that stage. The initiative was subsequently presented at the World Urban Forum as a model focused on affordable housing, digital management and social inclusion. UN-Habitat’s programme profile describes it as an interest-free housing loan initiative targeting Punjab’s poorest households.
