Electric buses are coming to 91 tehsils across Punjab

Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to expand its electric bus programme to 91 tehsils by deploying 1,500 additional buses and establishing dedicated electric bus depots in each selected area. The expansion is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s environment-friendly public transport programme, which aims to extend affordable and modern travel facilities beyond major cities. The provincial government had previously approved the deployment of 1,500 electric buses across Punjab. According to the latest government update, the province has set a target of operating 3,000 electric buses by June 2027. The announcement represents a rollout target rather than a completed expansion; route plans, district-wise allocations, depot locations and implementation schedules for all 91 tehsils have not yet been released.
