Dubai: The Hassyan seawater reverse-osmosis project has entered operation in stages, with Block A already commissioned at 60 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD). DEWA said in its latest H1 2026 results that another 120 MIGD is expected to be added during 2026, taking the full project to 180 MIGD, or roughly 818 million litres per day. The AED 3.377 billion project uses reverse-osmosis technology and renewable energy supplied by DEWA, and all phases are scheduled for completion in Q1 2027. Technology provider Veolia says full capacity would be sufficient to supply drinking water to around two million people and describes Hassyan as the world’s largest solar-powered desalination plant.
