Dubai: Uber has officially added Baidu’s fully driverless Apollo Go robotaxis to its platform in Dubai, allowing riders in selected parts of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim to travel without a human driver. From August 20, passengers requesting UberX or Uber Comfort may automatically be matched with an Apollo Go vehicle, while users can also select the dedicated “Autonomous” option to improve their chances of receiving one. The service uses Baidu’s sixth-generation Apollo Go RT6, a purpose-built fully electric robotaxi capable of carrying up to three passengers. Uber says each vehicle uses more than 30 sensors for environmental detection and real-time onboard processing. New Horizon Luxury Transport is handling local fleet operations. Dubai is the first market where the Baidu-Uber autonomous partnership has gone live for riders.
