Dubai Metro Blue Line speeds ahead with faster tunnelling milestone

Dubai: Dubai’s Metro Blue Line project has achieved a major engineering milestone as its tunnel boring machine, Al Wugeisha, excavates at more than twice the speed of the technology used in the original Metro project. The machine can dig up to 30 metres per day, allowing the first phase of tunnelling to finish in just two months compared to seven months previously. The AED20.5 billion project will add 30 kilometres of track and 14 new stations, with operations expected to begin in September 2029. The expansion will improve public transport access, reduce road pressure, support nearby property demand, and boost investment around new transit corridors. Can this project reshape Dubai’s future urban growth?
