Dubai: The Dubai Civility Committee has introduced new solar-powered smart benches and mobile phone charging facilities on lighting poles along the Dubai Water Canal, offering residents and visitors greater convenience while enjoying the waterfront.
The newly installed smart benches feature wireless charging pads, allowing visitors with compatible devices to recharge their phones while relaxing. Lighting poles in the same area have also been equipped with USB-A charging ports, protected by waterproof covers. The dual charging ports are rated at 1A and 2.1A.
According to information shared by the Dubai Civility Committee and reported on October 20, 2026, the initiative aims to improve public spaces by combining practical technology, comfortable seating and energy-efficient facilities.
Smart benches are not entirely new to Dubai. Similar solar-powered charging facilities were previously introduced at Al Mamzar Beach Park in 2018 and subsequently at other public locations. The latest initiative extends these conveniences to the Dubai Water Canal. However, the total number of newly installed benches and poles, project expenditure and future expansion schedule have not been publicly confirmed.
