Dubai Building World’s Largest Airport in AED128bn Mega Expansion

Dubai: Construction of the AED128 billion ($35 billion) Al Maktoum International Airport expansion has entered a large-scale phase, with the Dubai Government confirming that the first phase remains on schedule to begin operations in 2032. More than AED13 billion worth of construction packages are currently under execution, while projects exceeding AED55 billion are being prepared for award during the next stage. Work completed or underway includes more than 17,000 concrete piles, over 45 million cubic metres of excavation and completion of the second runway ahead of rehabilitation of the existing runway. Around 9,000 workers are currently on site, with the workforce expected to reach about 120,000 at peak construction.
