Diamer: The Diamer Basha Dam Project has achieved a major construction step with the successful pulling of the main cable for a 30-ton cable crane across the River Indus. According to updates from WAPDA and project contractor PowerChina, the cable stretches for more than 1,500 metres between the steep sides of the mountain valley. A cable crane is a heavy lifting system suspended on strong wires above the construction site. It will be used to carry concrete, machinery and other heavy materials across the deep river canyon during construction of the main dam. This development does not mean that the dam itself has been completed; it prepares the site for faster and safer heavy construction work. WAPDA lists the project’s current completion target as October 2030.
