Islamabad’s emergency response system is set for a major upgrade as China prepares to provide 21 modern fire tenders to the Capital Development Authority. The fleet includes an advanced 88-metre aerial snorkel capable of supporting firefighting and rescue operations on the upper floors of high-rise buildings. The vehicles are expected to be shipped from China during the second week of August 2026 and will arrive through Karachi Port. CDA currently operates 22 fire tenders and four snorkels, with its tallest existing platform reaching 68 metres. Officials believe the new equipment will address a major limitation in Islamabad’s firefighting infrastructure. However, emergency personnel have also called for recruitment and training, as more than 100 firefighter positions reportedly remain vacant.
