Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Japan International Cooperation Agency President Dr Akihiko Tanaka and his delegation to discuss ongoing and future development cooperation in Punjab. The meeting reviewed JICA-supported projects, including progress on water-supply initiatives in Faisalabad. Both sides also discussed potential collaboration in education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, sanitation and urban infrastructure. The chief minister expressed interest in extending the Faisalabad water-supply and sanitation model to other Punjab cities and appreciated JICA’s support for maternal and child healthcare. JICA has previously supported the expansion of Faisalabad’s water-treatment and distribution network, alongside technical cooperation to strengthen water-utility management. No new financing agreement, project cost or implementation deadline was announced during the meeting.
