Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting on agricultural transformation and water management, approving 800 additional mini dams in Potohar’s rain-fed areas over the next three years. These will be small local structures designed to collect and store rainwater, rather than large dams used for electricity generation. Officials said the project would create 32,000 acre-feet of water-storage capacity and may support farming and groundwater recharge. The chief minister also sought a comprehensive rainwater-storage plan and directed the Agriculture, Irrigation, Housing and Local Government departments to prepare a joint strategy. The meeting further approved the provision of 1,000 laser land levellers to farmers at a 50% subsidy during the current financial year.
