CDA Wants 600 More Buses to Meet Passengers Influx

Islamabad’s electric bus service has crossed 100,000 passengers, leading the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to request 600 additional buses from the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). Officials stated that due to rising commuter demand, the existing fleet is no longer sufficient to maintain smooth operations. The new buses will significantly improve travel intervals, with long-route frequency expected to reduce from 30–45 minutes to just 15 minutes, while short-route intervals will drop from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. NRTC is now seeking approval from the relevant ministry to begin procurement. Initially operating on 13 routes, the service has now expanded to 18. Launched last December, Islamabad’s electric bus network has quickly become a key part of the city’s sustainable mobility strategy.
