Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan has clarified that employees of banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) are not eligible to obtain financing under the Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Program — “Ghar Ho Tu Apna.” The restriction was issued through SH&SFD Circular Letter No. 05 of 2026 dated September 14, 2026.
SBP has directed banks to inform their branches and field staff about the clarification and ensure compliance. The circular specifically deals with the own employees of banks, DFIs and MFBs; it does not announce the suspension of the housing programme for eligible members of the general public.
Under the latest scheme parameters, eligible applicants can obtain housing finance of up to Rs10 million for a house of up to 10 marla / 2,720 sq ft or a flat of up to 1,500 sq ft, with a 5% fixed customer rate. Earlier scheme features provide for a maximum loan tenor of 20 years, with subsidy support for the first 10 years.
The government has also expanded the programme to eligible overseas Pakistanis and allows participating institutions to arrange department-level bulk processing for government employees. Those provisions remain separate from the new restriction on employees of banks, DFIs and MFBs.
