Russia, Pakistan Advance First Moscow–Karachi and Faisalabad Freight Rail Service

Islamabad: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev has said Russia and Pakistan are working to establish their first freight rail service connecting Moscow with Faisalabad and Karachi in both directions. According to an official statement published by the Russian Embassy on August 8, the two sides are finalising a service contract and identifying companies interested in moving cargo through the proposed corridor. Belarus is also being considered as a possible participant. Khorev said the project had faced repeated delays during 2025 and early 2026 because of heightened geopolitical tensions. No formal launch date has yet been announced. The proposed service could strengthen overland trade and logistics links between Russia and Pakistan if the remaining commercial and operational arrangements are completed.
