Lahore: Umar Abbas Mela has assumed charge as Director General PDMA Punjab, according to the authority’s spokesperson. He is a Grade 19 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service and has previously served as Deputy Commissioner Toba Tek Singh, as well as in the Chief Minister’s Office and Finance Department. After taking charge, he held an introductory meeting with PDMA officers and received a detailed briefing on preparations for monsoon rains and possible flood situations. He directed officers to follow government policy, ensure discipline, improve service delivery, and prioritize public facilitation. Strong disaster management leadership is important for urban safety, flood response, infrastructure protection, and residential confidence during monsoon season. Can improved coordination strengthen Punjab’s disaster response system?
