Punjab Imposes Ban on Businesses Charging Customers for Plastic Bags

The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that effective September 6, businesses across the province will no longer be allowed to charge customers for plastic shopping bags. Shops, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and other commercial outlets may only charge for reusable or recyclable bags made from non-plastic materials. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste, promote eco-friendly alternatives, and support environmental sustainability. Consumers and businesses are encouraged to adopt sustainable shopping practices ahead of the implementation date.
