Journalists demand PECA repeal at World Press Freedom Day event

Muhammad Muzamil Awan : Lahore: A ceremony was held under the Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) on World Press Freedom Day, where journalists demanded the repeal of the PECA law and raised concerns over press freedom in Pakistan. Speakers highlighted that Pakistan ranks 153rd out of 180 countries in press freedom, reflecting serious challenges faced by the media. It was stated that around 60 to 70 journalists face cases and arrests annually under PECA. Participants pledged to continue their struggle until the law is repealed and called on the government to ensure timely salaries and better economic conditions for media workers. The event was attended by senior journalists and representatives from various media bodies.
