Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to expand dedicated bus and taxi lanes during 2026 by adding six new corridors spanning 13 kilometres, increasing the total network to 20 km. The new lanes will cover major routes including Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, 2nd of December Street, Al Satwa, Al Nahda, Omar bin Al Khattab Street, and Naif Street. Authorities said violators entering these lanes will face a fine of AED 600. The initiative aims to increase public transport ridership by 10%, improve bus punctuality by 42%, and reduce journey times by 41%. Meanwhile, RTA is also studying an electric trackless tram system guided by virtual road markings to further modernise urban mobility.
