The government is planning a massive 6,000-acre Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Pakistan Steel Mills to accelerate export-led economic growth. The announcement was made by Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum during a consultative session with stakeholders, hosted by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry President Atif Ikram Sheikh and chaired by Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul. Participants stressed that sustainable export growth requires close coordination between policymakers and the business community. While exporters have shown resilience, challenges such as high energy costs, limited financing, and compliance with global standards remain. The proposed EPZ is expected to attract investment, expand industrial capacity, and strengthen Pakistan’s export base.
