Peshawar: Section 144 has been imposed across several southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid security and public-safety concerns, while PTI’s long march continues through the province. Restrictions are in place in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Upper South Waziristan and Lower South Waziristan, with Hangu also facing route restrictions for a separate period.
In D.I. Khan, movement on specified roads has been restricted from 6am to 6pm between October 4 and October 6. In Tank, restrictions ran from 9pm on October 3 until noon on October 5. Upper South Waziristan faced vehicle restrictions from October 3 to October 5, while Lower South Waziristan has restrictions on specified cargo and loader vehicles in Wana and Azam Warsak from October 1 to October 10.
The official notifications cite security, law-and-order and public-safety concerns. Emergency services, law-enforcement personnel and authorised security movements are exempt, while violations can lead to action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
PTI launched its long march from Lakki Marwat on October 4, with caravans from D.I. Khan, Tank, South Waziristan and other districts scheduled to join the procession. The march is being led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
