Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has approved a Rs36 billion surface water treatment plant and water supply system linked to Dadocha Dam, aimed at strengthening Rawalpindi’s long-term drinking-water supply. Once completed, the new system is planned to add 35 million gallons of treated water every day to the city’s network. The project is targeted for completion by December 2029.
WASA Rawalpindi will develop the water-supply infrastructure, including the transmission line and distribution network needed to move treated water from Dadocha Dam into Rawalpindi. Current reporting says the transmission system will extend about 28 kilometres.
Importantly, the Rs36bn approval is for the treatment and water-supply system, not the original construction cost of Dadocha Dam itself.
