Islamabad: China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has presented a conceptual master plan for the proposed Keti Bunder Port in Sindh, putting the preliminary engineering cost of its first phase at approximately $522.34 million. Phase I proposes a 500-metre quay with a multi-purpose terminal, while the broader concept includes multiple terminals, logistics facilities and supporting infrastructure.
President Asif Ali Zardari said Keti Bunder has the potential to become an additional maritime gateway for Pakistan, but stressed that the port would need reliable road connectivity, electricity, water supply and industrial infrastructure. He also called for protection of the Indus Delta ecosystem and local fishing communities.
However, the project is not yet at construction stage. Further technical work, financing and an implementation framework still need to be finalized.
