Lahore: Punjab is developing a specialised Pink Salt Mineral Processing Zone on 110 acres near Quaidabad as part of its push to process, package and market Pakistani pink salt as value-added products rather than relying mainly on raw-material exports. The initiative is linked with the Chief Minister Pink Salt Value Addition Financing Scheme.
The latest government briefing says the Quaidabad industrial cluster is planned to accommodate 200 value-addition units and is expected to create more than 10,000 employment opportunities. These are programme targets; the 200 units and 10,000 jobs should not be reported as already operational or already created.
Punjab has also allocated Rs5 billion for interest-free financing, with individual eligible businesses able to receive up to Rs50 million for salt processing, refining, grinding, cleaning, packaging and related technology. The Chief Minister distributed financing cheques to 10 businesses on October 1.
The government says the broader objective is to increase Pakistani branding, processing and export value. Officials have projected that improved value addition could eventually raise annual pink-salt exports by up to $300 million, but this is a government projection, not an achieved export increase.
