Punjab to expand electric buses, metro projects and tram routes

Ali Raza Wajid: Lahore: Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced major upgrades to the province’s public transport system during a Lahore Press Club event. He stated that 500 electric buses are already operational, with 600 more to be added by May next year and 1,500 additional buses planned in the upcoming budget. Key projects include the completion of Gujranwala Metro by December, Faisalabad Metro next year, and four tram routes in Lahore. A glass train project in Murree and high-speed rail feasibility between Lahore and Rawalpindi are also underway. The minister added that transport services have been made more accessible, including free travel initiatives benefiting over 1.4 million passengers daily.
