Punjab speeds up digital sewerage desilting before monsoon

Lahore: Punjab’s sewerage desilting campaign is being accelerated before the monsoon season, with new monitoring features being added to a digital dashboard for stronger supervision. The decision came during an important meeting chaired by Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, attended online by MDs of WASAs from 41 districts. Officials were directed to complete desilting of drains, sewerage lines, manholes and disposal stations on time, while field staff will upload real-time data and photos through an app. The dashboard will also be visible to the Chief Minister and senior officials. Cleaner drainage systems can reduce urban flooding, protect roads, support commercial activity and safeguard property values. Will digital monitoring improve Punjab’s monsoon preparedness?
