LAHORE – Under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Clean Punjab” vision, the Mahmood Booti Landfill is being transformed into Pakistan’s first carbon credit market, converting methane emissions into usable energy. The Phase Two project includes a flaring system, 5 MW solar park, and 31-acre urban forest. Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, along with RUDA officials, inspected progress and reviewed environmental and energy measures. Advanced MRV systems and international consultancy support are ensuring global standards in climate action, air quality improvement, and groundwater protection. The initiative will generate sustainable revenue through carbon credits while providing a cleaner, cooler urban environment and enhanced public health, positioning Punjab as a model for integrated climate action and green economy development.
