Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on October 2 that around 130,000 houses have been completed in Punjab while another 100,000 are under construction under the provincial government’s housing initiatives. This would put the combined figure at roughly 230,000 completed or under-construction homes, not 225,000.
The latest detailed Housing Department figures publicly reported just before this statement were lower: a September 30 programme review cited around 122,000 completed houses and 57,500 under construction, with more than 215,000 families approved for loans. Earlier in September, APP reported that loans worth about Rs260 billion had been issued for more than 200,000 houses and around 125,000 families had moved into completed homes. The difference suggests the Chief Minister’s latest numbers reflect a newer government update whose detailed breakdown has not yet been published.
Under the core Apni Chhat Apna Ghar model, eligible Punjab residents who already own land can receive an interest-free construction loan of up to Rs1.5 million. Official eligibility is up to 5 marlas in urban areas and 10 marlas in rural areas—not a blanket one-to-10-marla rule for every applicant. The original repayment period is nine years, with monthly instalments designed at around Rs14,000 after the initial grace period.
