Multan: The long-inactive lake at Shah Shams Park has reached its planned reopening period after remaining non-functional since 2011. In August, Multan Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan ordered the Horticulture Authority to complete restoration work and make the lake operational in the first week of September 2026.
The restoration forms part of the Punjab government’s wider beautification and green-space programme. Horticulture Agency Multan Managing Director Syed Waseem Hassan had earlier said that restoration of the Shah Shams Park lake and café was being accelerated under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Green Vision.
Authorities have said the revival is intended to restore one of Multan’s important recreational attractions and provide families with a safer and improved public space. Safety arrangements around the lake were also specifically ordered before public reopening.
The latest update provided to TRT says the lake has now been fully restored after around 15 years. However, the most recent independently indexed report I found, dated August 30, still described development work on the lake and café as ongoing and instructed officials to complete it quickly.
