Punjab approves driving licenses for 16-year-old motorcyclists

Lahore: The Punjab cabinet has approved a policy allowing 16-year-olds to obtain driving licenses for motorcycles under specific conditions. The Home Department has forwarded the proposal to the Law Department for formal gazette notification, expected soon. Under the new rules, license holders can ride motorcycles and carry one passenger but are prohibited from operating motorcycle rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, or any commercial vehicles. Authorities state this initiative aims to legally recognize young riders while promoting road safety and regulated mobility. Experts suggest the policy could improve licensing compliance and awareness among youth, shaping safer urban transport practices across Punjab.
