Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Speeds Up DISCO Privatisation, Commission Reforms

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on the privatisation of electricity distribution companies and the institutional restructuring of the Privatisation Commission. Officials briefed the meeting that domestic and international roadshows had been conducted to attract investors for the first-phase privatisation of FESCO, GEPCO and IESCO, including outreach in Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and China. The prime minister directed authorities to adopt a comprehensive strategy for attracting credible international investors and complete the Commission’s restructuring within one month. He also ordered the inclusion of qualified financial, legal and information technology experts, alongside timely completion of the required legal and regulatory framework. Shehbaz Sharif stressed that consumer interests and an effective complaint-resolution system must remain central to the privatisation process.
