Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Orders Wider Digital Tracking of Industrial Production

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a weekly meeting to review Federal Board of Revenue reforms and progress in tax collection. He directed FBR to expand digital systems that record how much goods different industries produce, helping authorities check tax payments and reduce tax evasion. The system is already operating in the sugar, cement, tobacco, tiles and fertiliser industries. Similar work is underway for textile, beverages, steel, poultry, edible oil and ghee, and tyre businesses, with wider implementation ordered by December 2026. The prime minister also directed officials to develop a clear method for estimating each sector’s tax potential, identify untaxed businesses through available data and make FBR appointments and transfers on merit. Officials also briefed the meeting on staff training and performance checks.
