Overcharging proves costly in Lahore: Rs13.77m fines, 481 arrests

Lahore: The district administration conducted 112,449 price inspections across Lahore during the month, according to a report issued on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz. Price control magistrates carried out 45,337 inspections, while the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority conducted 67,112. The supplied report says 2,748 overpricing cases were detected, alongside 478 violations involving the non-display of official rate lists and 2,811 other violations. Authorities imposed fines totalling Rs13.77 million, registered 402 FIRs, sealed 705 premises and arrested 481 people. Officials also issued 3,165 warnings, while 698 individuals were fined. The deputy commissioner directed enforcement teams to continue action against overpricing and ensure that official rate lists are displayed prominently.
