Lahore takes smog fight round the clock with new control centre

Lahore: A District Smog Control and Coordination Centre has been established at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on the directions of Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousuf. According to a district administration press release issued on September 25, the centre will remain operational around the clock to monitor daily anti-smog activities and coordinate enforcement across the district. Focal persons from the environment, industries, health, agriculture, local government, traffic, transport and waste-management departments have been deployed at the facility. Two officers stationed at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority headquarters will also coordinate with the centre. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz has directed assistant commissioners to conduct smog audits in every tehsil. The administration has previously ordered stricter enforcement against smoke-emitting vehicles, industrial pollution and other smog-producing activities.
