Lahore Residents Suffer as Mian Mir Filtration Plant Remains Closed

Residents of Lahore’s Mian Mir area are facing severe hardship as a water filtration plant on Sikandar Road has remained nonfunctional for nearly two years. The facility was installed to provide safe drinking water, but the absence of timely maintenance has led to a complete shutdown. Locals say repeated complaints to relevant authorities have gone unanswered. As a result, tap water supplied to homes is unsafe for consumption, contributing to a rise in stomach-related illnesses, particularly among children and the elderly. With no alternative facility in the neighborhood, residents are forced to buy expensive water or travel long distances to fetch it. Citizens have urged the Punjab government to repair and restore the plant to ensure access to clean water.
