Islamabad: Travel time between Islamabad and Rawalpindi could fall to around 16 to 18 minutes after completion of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and improvements to the Islamabad Expressway service road, according to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The Kashmir Chowk Underpass is being built by the Capital Development Authority at a reported cost of around Rs1.4 billion. The junction currently handles about 107,000 vehicles daily, and the project includes separate underpasses and four slip roads to ease congestion and improve traffic movement.
Authorities have said the underpass will be integrated with wider road improvements, including the Islamabad Expressway service road project. The 16–18 minute figure is a projected travel-time target, not the current journey time and not a guaranteed result under all traffic conditions
