Lahore: Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are bracing for another spell of monsoon rain from August 29 to September 5, with authorities warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. Punjab’s alert covers Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Murree and several other districts. Urban flooding is considered a particular risk in major cities, while Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas may face landslides.
In KP, rain and thunderstorms are forecast across Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Kohistan, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and other districts. Mardan and Swabi face an urban-flooding risk, while upper districts could see landslides.
Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Flood Forecasting Division separately confirms that a monsoon trough is affecting the upper catchments, with rainfall expected to increase river flows in the Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi systems.
