Construction is continuing on the Bhatti Chowk Underpass and Data Darbar expansion project, a major urban redevelopment scheme designed to improve traffic movement around one of Lahore’s busiest religious and historic areas. The project includes a three-lane underpass, road remodelling, pedestrian facilities, improved access to Data Darbar and aesthetic upgrades to the surrounding area.
The scheme is estimated to cost approximately Rs2.5 billion and is being financed through Lahore Development Authority resources and the Auqaf Department’s development programme. Officials have said the project involves land acquisition around Bhatti Chowk and Mohni Road and is expected to benefit nearly 310,000 vehicles daily by providing smoother traffic flow and safer pedestrian movement.
According to an official progress review reported in May 2026, around 43 percent of the Bhatti Chowk underpass work had been completed, with excavation and structural activity progressing on both sides. The wider Data Darbar redevelopment also includes pedestrian walkways and façade improvements.
