Abu Dhabi: The emirate plans to commit about Dh250 billion over the next 10 years to expand electricity, water and district-cooling infrastructure, according to Abu Dhabi Department of Energy Chairman Dr Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, speaking at LIVEX 2026 on September 29. Gulf News
The investment is intended to prepare utility networks for Abu Dhabi’s continued urban and economic growth, including new neighbourhoods, hospitals, schools and universities. Electricity demand is expected to rise sharply over the coming decade, requiring additional generation, transmission and distribution capacity. Gulf News
Al Jarwan also said clean and sustainable power has grown from less than 1% of Abu Dhabi’s energy mix a decade ago to more than 5% today. He said the carbon footprint of water production has fallen about 20% over the same period, while production costs have declined. Gulf News
The Department of Energy already has a long-term strategy for Abu Dhabi’s energy and water sectors through 2050, focused on secure supply, efficiency and lower emissions. However, a detailed official breakdown showing how the full Dh250 billion will be divided among individual projects has not yet been published in the sources reviewed.
