Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), in partnership with leading developer Aldar, has announced a major AED2.8 billion ($762 million) housing development that will deliver approximately 9,000 affordable rental units across two residential communities in Mohamed Bin Zayed City and Baniyas.
The development forms part of Abu Dhabi’s Value Housing Programme, which aims to expand access to quality rental accommodation for residents. Under the agreement, DMT will provide long-term land leasing rights, while Aldar will be responsible for developing, leasing and managing both communities.
In Baniyas, the project will feature more than 30 residential buildings along the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain E22 highway, alongside retail outlets, recreational facilities and landscaped green areas. The second community in Mohamed Bin Zayed City will offer accommodation for individuals and shared households, with shops and everyday services located within the development.
According to the official project announcement, both residential communities are targeted for completion in 2029. The investment is intended to increase the availability of professionally managed rental housing and support Abu Dhabi’s growing residential needs. However, individual rental prices, confirmed construction progress and exact handover dates have not been independently established.
