Lahore: As many as 485 villages are being developed as model communities under the “Maryam Nawaz’s Sohna Punjab” programme, with development schemes focused on improving essential civic facilities. Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq said 19 villages have so far achieved 100 per cent completion, while 67 per cent of the work has been completed in another 281 villages. The programme includes paved streets, children’s parks, streetlights and new sewerage systems. Water supply schemes will also be introduced in villages facing clean drinking water shortages. Officials said the Punjab government is providing the required funding, while the programme will gradually be expanded after completion of its first phase.
