The Data Darbar expansion project has been officially launched to upgrade infrastructure around Lahore’s historic shrine while preserving its spiritual and religious character. The project aims to ease traffic congestion, improve pedestrian safety, and enhance the overall environment of the surrounding area.According to Auqaf Secretary Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, the project is being jointly implemented by TEPA (LDA), the Communication and Works Department, NESPAK, and the Auqaf Department. Key components include the remodelling of Bhati Chowk, development of a modern sitting area, upgraded pedestrian zones, façade improvements, a pedestrian underpass, new parking facilities, and a wagon stand.
The plan also includes rehabilitation of the road from Data Darbar to Azadi Chowk, widening of Mohni Road, landscaping, street lighting, signage, and urban furniture.Estimated at Rs 2.5 billion, the project will be completed within six months and is expected to benefit over 310,000 vehicles daily, improving traffic flow, reducing emissions, and enhancing aesthetics.
