Shehbaz Sharif Joins SCO Leaders in Bishkek as Pakistan Takes Chair

Bishkek: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif joined leaders of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states for the official group photo at the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov received the prime minister at the summit venue before the leaders gathered for the photograph and formal proceedings.

The summit brings together leaders from Pakistan, China, Russia, India, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz is also participating in the SCO Plus Summit and holding bilateral meetings with participating leaders.

A major development for Pakistan is that it is assuming the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27. Pakistan is expected to host the next SCO Heads of State Summit in Islamabad in 2027.
