Dubai: Dubai Municipality has become the first government entity worldwide to receive international certification for climate-resilient stormwater management, according to Emirates News Agency. The certification recognises compliance with the ISO 24566 framework, which focuses on adapting water and stormwater services to the impacts of climate change.
The recognition covers Dubai Municipality’s approach to assessing changing rainfall patterns and climate risks, and using that information in the planning, design, operation and maintenance of drainage infrastructure. It is intended to improve preparedness for heavier rainfall, reduce infrastructure risks and help essential services continue during changing weather conditions.
The certification also comes while Dubai is investing heavily in its wider Tasreef stormwater programme, a separate AED30 billion infrastructure programme designed to substantially expand drainage capacity across the emirate.
